Tents should be pitched on hard, flat ground where possible and not on river banks or dry riverbeds.

It is best to have a tent face facing south or south-east with a view of the early morning sun, and try not to camp on ridges or hilltops.

At least have alcove land and do not pitch next to a stream so that it is not too cold at night.

The entrance to the tent should be to the wind and the tent should be away from rocky hillsides.

Choose a campsite with good drainage, such as sand, grass or rocky debris. To avoid flooding in the event of rain, dig a drainage trench directly below the roofline.

To prevent insects from entering, spread a circle of paraffin around the tent.

Setting up camp

When setting up camp, don't be in a hurry to use the camping pegs, trying to complete the pitch in the shortest possible time can sometimes result in cracking of the pegs or loosening of the metal rings, it is best to carry a spare piece of three inch long aluminium tubing.

Different manufacturers have different designs for camping pegs, from six to eight inches, T, I or half-moon, and spiral pegs for hard, rocky or snowy terrain. Of course, tree trunks or branches and roots in the vicinity of the campsite can also be used as camp pegs.

Once the campsite is built, pack any unused items into the tent sleeve. Loose joints in the camping pegs must be taped tightly, and if a part of the tent is missing, the tent will not fit together. If you want to have a good dream in the mountains, it is a good idea to pay attention to the corners and the joints of the poles and reinforce them so that even in bad weather there will not be any problems.

The corners of the tent should be secured with pegs. Before going to bed at night, check that all fires are extinguished and that the tent is securely fastened. Before folding the tent, dry it in the sun and then wipe it clean. During snowy periods, you can use snow to wipe it clean without soiling the sleeping bag, or turn it upside down to dry and wipe it clean before putting it away.
